Meta has announced a substantial performance increase is being made available to it's Quest 2 developer community.

Meta claims that their recent changes add up to a 7% increase in GPU performance. This is accomplished by opening up a 525 MHz GPU frequency mode (up from 490 MHz) to developers starting today.

For current titles, this will automatically allow games and experiences to run that much smoother. However beginning with current firmware v47, the headset must be taken off then put back on, or put to sleep and then awoken, to enable the GPU increases to become active. Later when firmware v49 is released this will not be necessary. The Quest 2 software will prioritized increasing GPU clock speed when needed before resorting to foveation, allowing for higher visual fidelity to be retained in demanding instances.

Meta's Oculus developer's account on Twitter comments the following:

Today we’re excited to announce that you have more GPU compute power to work with on Meta Quest 2 devices—7% to be exact. All developers can start taking advantage of the new 525 MHz GPU frequency (up from 490 MHz) for better app performance. Learn more ➡️ https://t.co/0OEwcOLk6N pic.twitter.com/TeeXMw8Leu
