Meta and the FTC, a US agency responsible for antitrust issues, begin their courtroom battle today. The agency began an antitrust investigation of Meta following a series of acquisitions in the VR space.

The acquisition at the heart of the battle is for software company Within Inc, the developer of the popular Supernatural VR application. The FTC is asking the court to grant an injunction against this purchase, as they argue it would form a monopoly of VR fitness apps.

Meta is facing separate FTC probes over it's control of Whatsapp and Instagram. This follows a year of negative press for the company, who has seen their stock prices plummet since their highs during the pandemic.
